About The Position

The certified/registered medical assistant performs a wide range of clinical duties including assisting the physician in providing quality care in a medical office setting. The medical assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge required to provide age appropriate care for the patients served in the practice, and skills to interpret assessment in relation to principles of growth and development over the life span. In addition, the medical assistant must be knowledgeable of health insurance guidelines for preauthorization's and referral processes, and be attentive to scheduling testing and specialist visits within network guidelines.

Requirements

  • Education Program Graduate, Medical Assistant (Required)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
  • First Aid - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Performs lab procedures to include compliant use of ABNs and phlebotomy skills (If applicable). Sends specimens to the lab.
  • Performs lab linkage, obtains pre-authorizations, and schedules tests and specialist visits within network limitations.
  • Maintains and utilizes knowledge of ICD and CPT coding and follows insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations.
  • Assists the patients with questions regarding access to care, including appointments, referrals and essential information.
  • Provides excellent customer service and follow-up.
  • Manages patient expectations with clear explanations (i.e., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manages the providers' patient schedules.
  • Provides patient education per protocol and provider instruction to include Electronic Health Record and exit interview communication tools.
  • Responsible for completing initial patient work up (including manual vitals), chaperoning patients, assisting providers with procedures, and ensuring patient rooms are clean and compliant for next visit.
  • Assures clinical equipment is maintained and clinical supplies are ordered and stocked as necessary.
