About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care support and clinical assistance in a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) pediatric practice, working collaboratively with providers, nurses, and support staff to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care to children and adolescents.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program OR Equivalent combination of education and healthcare experience
  • Current CPR certification required (Can be obtained after employment)
  • Current immunizations
  • 1+ years medical assistant experience in pediatric or family practice preferred
  • Experience with electronic health records
  • Knowledge of pediatric immunization schedules and VFC program
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in vital sign measurement for all pediatric age groups
  • Knowledge of pediatric growth and development
  • Understanding of infection control and safety protocols
  • Ability to perform basic laboratory procedures
  • Experience with immunization administration and documentation
  • Excellent communication skills with children, adolescents, and families
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ability to work effectively in team environment
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Patience and empathy when working with pediatric patients
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workflows
  • The ability to pick-up/hold infants and appropriately restrain older children
  • The ability to tolerate extensive walking, standing, bending, and reaching
  • The ability to carry a laptop and other hand-held medical equipment
  • The ability to safely use a step stool
  • The ability to speak and hear clearly on the telephone
  • The ability to sit at a computer and clearly visualize the screen
  • The ability to complete legible documentation on medical documents

  • CMA (AAMA) or RMA certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients and families to exam rooms
  • Obtain vital signs (height, weight, BMI, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations)
  • Document chief complaints and basic medical history
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures
  • Provide post-visit instructions and discharge education
  • Administer routine immunizations per provider orders and state protocols
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings
  • Assist with basic laboratory procedures and specimen collection
  • Perform strep tests, flu tests, and other point-of-care testing
  • Maintain accurate immunization records and VFC program compliance
  • Accurately document patient encounters in Office Practicum EHR system
  • Prepare charts and organize workflow for provider efficiency
  • Maintain compliance with documentation standards and HIPAA requirements
  • Complete assigned clinical tasks
  • Document medication histories and allergies
  • Document preferred pharmacy
  • Assist with prior authorization requests and pharmacy communications
  • Prepare and organize medical records for visits
  • Support billing activities with accurate procedure and diagnosis coding
