About The Position

Us Heart and Vascular is in need of a Medical Assistant to join Memorial Cardiology Associates in Houston TX. Responsibilities: Takes patient vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.) Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list. Responsible for EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts. (Proficiency Required) Assist physicians with patient exams as needed. Responsible for Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required) Ability to perform stress tests as needed and to assist in test interpretation. Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills. Monitors pharmacy samples, removing them from stock as expired. Receives and returns phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR. Maintains current CPR and Medical Assistant certification. Actively demonstrates teamwork at all times. Performs other duties as required. May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions. May be required to move between locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or Texas accredited GED
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, or recent graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program with completion of program externship.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Must have experience in administration of EKG’s.
  • Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
