About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) position is an important member of the patient care team who assists providers and other office team members in the safe, quality care of patients. Primary duties include supporting the allergy clinic provider's offices, preparing patient charts with necessary medical information from referring physicians for office appointments, coordinating scheduling of patient testing and services, scheduling of patient appointments, rooms allergy clinic patients and takes vital signs, report patient concerns or pertinent observations to provider or licensed team member, accurately documents all patient related activities. Requirements

  • Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program
  • Successfully completed a medical assistant or patient care technician program
  • A Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician may be substituted for the educational requirement
  • Active certification to practice in Kansas as either Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician is required as a substitute for education qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assists providers and other office team members in the safe, quality care of patients.
  • Supports the allergy clinic provider's offices.
  • Prepares patient charts with necessary medical information from referring physicians for office appointments.
  • Coordinates scheduling of patient testing and services.
  • Schedules patient appointments.
  • Rooms allergy clinic patients and takes vital signs.
  • Reports patient concerns or pertinent observations to provider or licensed team member.
  • Accurately documents all patient related activities.
  • Implements identified plan through coordination of care with interdisciplinary care team to employ strategies to promote health and wellness.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary care team encompassing strategies to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Communicates pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting in a timely manner.
  • Promotes infection prevention through use of standard precautions, proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene and cleanliness of the patient rooms/department.
  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADL’S), accurate measurement and recording of weight, height, vital signs and reports any changes to assigned nurse.
  • Delivers care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
  • Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice.

  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
