About The Position

The Medical Assistant for South Bay Cardio will assist the clinical staff in the care of patients, prep patients for stress testing procedures, assist in patient observation, assist in the maintaining of clean exam rooms, stock items, answer phones, front office, and other related duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • BLS (only from the American Heart Association and nothing done online)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital experience preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant Program or EMT preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Takes direction for all patient care activities from a registered professional nurse.
  • Completes assignment record and submits for review.
  • Takes ownership in patient safety outcomes.
  • Checks daily for presence of an identification band on each patient; replaces them as needed.
  • Administers personal care of patients (bed making, bath, foot care, oral hygiene, skin care, back care, shaving men) and documents care given.
  • Feeds or assists patients with meals. Reports eating patterns to the clinical nurse.
  • Takes and reports to the clinical nurse patients' blood pressure, temperature, pain level, respiration, pulse rate, oxygen saturation level, and weight.
  • Measures and reports to nurse p.o. fluid intake and output.
  • Collects routine specimens, such as urine, stool, and sputum (not from suctioning).
  • Performs and correctly labels a 12-Lead EKG.
  • Performs phlebotomy via finger stick or venipuncture for collection of blood specimens and laboratory analysis.
  • Performs, obtains results and reports bedside glucose monitoring from use of meter directly to the nurse for visual accuracy.
  • Cares for epicardial pacing wires:-isolates, - insulates,-provides site care applies dressing.
  • Paints and cleans approximated incisions.
  • Complies with Standard Precautions and infection prevention and control practices.
  • Checks and assures the integrity and sufficient number of equipment and supplies and responds to patient or environmental emergencies appropriately.
  • Performs CPR as directed.
  • Participates in the Falls Prevention Program:-correctly utilizes restraint alternatives, - provides patients an explanation of the falls prevention measures, - promotes safety and performs Intentional Rounding.
  • Answers call bells, and responds to bed check alarms along with cardiac monitor alarms promptly.
  • Participates in pressure ulcer prevention by: turning and positioning patients, applying lotions and moisture barriers, utilizing pressure relief devices (heel lift boots, specialty beds), applies and releases restraints correctly and safely.
  • Accompanies and transports patients being admitted, transferred or discharged as directed by the clinical nurse.
