MEDICAL ASSISTANT - PCP OFFICE Brattleboro, VT • Brattleboro Family Medicine Job Type Full-time Description Brattleboro Memorial Hospital / Southern Vermont Health Services Corporation Job Description Job Title: Medical Assistant - PCP Office Job Code: 1007 Hours: 0800-1700 FTE: 1.0 (40 hours/week) Weekend Schedule: No Holiday Schedule: No Call Schedule: No FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department Name: Brattleboro Family Healthcare Department Code: 6900 Location: Brattleboro, Vermont JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant (MA) functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician/NP/PA/CMN and reports to the practice manager. The MA must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care, communicate effectively with others, maintain an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, work with the healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow, and organize the office environment to assure patient safety. Please note: This position is based in a Primary Care Physician's office and requires the ability to float to other practices within the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Medical Group. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: The BMH Physician Group practices provide medical services in various specialties and offices including pediatrics, ob/gyn, cardiology, orthopedics, internal medicine, family practice, ENT, urology and general surgery. The practices are staffed by physicians and other licensed providers who are supported by clinical staff (LPNs or medical assistants) and clerical staff. Hours vary by practice.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, medical assistant training program, EMS training, or nursing assistant training strongly preferred.
  • Minimum two years within the last 5 years of experience in doctor's office setting preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required within six months of hire.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Requires the ability to read and write.
  • May be required to lift a patient onto an exam table with the assistance of clinician.
  • May require lifting and carrying bulky items.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires manual and finger dexterity.
  • Requires the ability to distinguish letters, numbers or symbols accurately.
  • Requires the use of office equipment, such as computer terminal, telephone, copier, and facsimile.
  • Requires the use of medical equipment, such as but not limited to, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, scales, pulse oximetry, and oxygen.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions.
  • Requires the absence of color blindness.
  • Requires working irregular hours.
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
  • Potential for CTD and multiple and diverse interruptions.
  • Exposure to CRTs.
  • Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.
  • Ability to hear calls
  • Ability to hear instructions from physician/department staff/others
