About The Position

Under the general direction and supervision of the Clinic Administrator and/or Provider, prepares patients for clinical encounters to include patient screening and collection of health history, as well as coordinates and follow-up on patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • CNA or Phlebotomy certification required
  • Current BLS
  • Pediatric and adult injection skills.
  • Phlebotomy skills.
  • Current computer skills.
  • Knowledge of common medical practice equipment.
  • Knowledge of common outpatient medical documentation.
  • Knowledge of common office equipment (copier, fax, printer, etc.).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or Equivalent preferred
  • Graduation from a Practical Nursing Program or Equivalent preferred
  • Minimum one-year recent experience in a health care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with and timely responds to patients in your provider panel(s) who walk into the center for any reason.
  • Performs clinical procedures within appropriate scope of practice (e.g. pediatric and adult injections, tympanograpy, audiometry, spirometry, dispenses medications, venipuncture, EKGs, vision screening, dressing changes, etc.)
  • Assists provider with procedures.
  • Performs patient follow-up and coordinates care (e.g. obtains prior authorizations, completes patient forms/documents for provider review, follows-up on abnormal results, etc.), per clinic protocol.
  • Refills patient medications per clinic protocol.
  • Assesses patients paperwork to determine what needs to be done, including review health record (e.g., health history, labs, imaging, immunizations) and complete it within scope of abilities to give to provider.
  • Enters in and tracks patient recalls (childhood and adult immunizations, future blood work, abnormal paps, colonoscopies, etc.).
  • Tracks outpatient referrals to completion.
  • Operates and maintains centers medical equipment based on the manufacture instructions and clinic protocols.
  • Reviews and coordinates with other departments and integrates work with other staff to ensure timely and accurate patient flow.
  • Participates in meetings.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Complies with Health West Inc.s policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes specialized office and medical equipment following procedures implemented by Health West Inc.

  • Excisions helps residents by having the tray ready and knowing what instruments are needed as well as any injectable medications, bandaging, stitches etc.
  • Injections makes sure the providers know what medications we have in stock or the equivalent if we are out.
  • Processes and procedures this is one of the main teaching components.
  • Residents need to learn the different processes and procedures in a clinical setting.
  • Their nurse is responsible for teaching them about the flow of the clinic.
  • The ISU nurses are the center of team continuity for patient panel.
  • Knowing the entire teams patients.
  • Team nurses are responsible for 4 providers.
  • They inform the providers about any pertinent info on the patient when the PCP is out.
  • Nurses are in contact with the residents even when they are out on rotations.
  • Act as a point of reference to residents, especially interns, as to other physicians in the community and what services are available.
  • Sterile technique identifying potential areas of concern that require intervention.
  • EHS help residents with the EMR.
  • How to put in orders, Rxs, diagnosis codes, labs and procedure codes, flags, medical messages, Portal, sure script.
  • Monitoring residents efficiency with workflow.
  • Address problem areas as they arise.
