About The Position

The Infusion Medical Assistant supports safe, efficient patient flow within the infusion clinic by managing designated patient assignments and providing proactive operational and patient care support to the infusion nursing team. Working within the defined scope of practice and under the direction of the nursing staff, the MA performs delegated clinical tasks, assists with patient care activities, and contributes to daily operational readiness of the infusion department. The MA may provide cross coverage with other positions within the Cancer Center as needed. This role is essential to maintaining efficient clinic operations, enhancing patient experience, and supporting care delivery. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current MA Certification from one of the following; The American Medical Technology Association (AMT), The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
  • Must have basic knowledge of ICD-9, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems.
  • Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPPAA requirements.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Two (2) years of Medical Assisting experience.
  • Experience in Oncology/Infusion room setting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties within MA scope of practice and established policies and procedures.
  • Provides clinical support to all caregivers/providers.
  • Records and maintains patient's medical data in patient's medical chart.
  • Proactively supports overall clinic efficiency and daily readiness through supply stocking and management, chart scrubbing and billing audits, and assistance with operational tasks as delegated by nursing staff and leadership.
  • Participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as required.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
  • Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
