About The Position

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (BMH), in partnership with the Community College of Vermont (CCV), is offering a scholarship program to train individuals to become Certified Medical Assistants (CMA). As a medical assistant, you will provide foundational support to clinicians at BMH, including greeting and rooming patients, collecting and documenting patient medical histories, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure efficient patient flow. All BMH medical assistants receive ongoing support and education to maintain high-quality patient care skills. Accepted applicants will attend classes at CCV's Brattleboro campus and work 16 hours a week gaining on-the-job experience by shadowing and working alongside trained medical assistants in a BMH Medical Group practice. The scholarship covers full college tuition, and participants will earn $18.60 per hour for their on-the-job training hours. Upon successful completion of the 3-month classroom requirements, participants will be awarded a full-time medical assistant position at BMH with full benefits. Training will continue until certification is achieved, at which point wages will increase to $21.09/hr. The Medical Assistant functions under the direct supervision of a physician/NP/PA/CMN and reports to the practice manager. Key responsibilities include demonstrating competency in patient care skills, effective communication, managing examination/procedure room supplies, ensuring smooth patient flow, and organizing the office for patient safety. The BMH Physician Group practices offer medical services across various specialties including pediatrics, ob/gyn, cardiology, orthopedics, internal medicine, family practice, ENT, urology, and general surgery, staffed by physicians and other licensed providers supported by clinical and clerical staff.
