About The Position

About HealthQ: Established in 1971, HealthQ is a non-profit organization providing sexual and reproductive health. HealthQ's mission is to provide exceptional reproductive and sexual health care to all who need it without judgment and without barriers. With convenient locations on Massachusetts’ North Shore and Merrimack Valley, we provide birth control, abortion care, gender-affirming care, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing and referral, and other preventive health services. Position Summary: HealthQ is currently looking for a full time Medical Assistant (37.5-hour work week) to provide clinical support at our health centers to ensure efficient operations and quality care to our patients. This position will support patients and clinicians through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, examination, and treatment.

Requirements

  • At least (2) years of medical assisting experience.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, especially Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Dedication to and have passion for reproductive health and the achievement of reproductive justice and health equity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively and compassionately seek out and engage people in informational and non-judgmental discussions centered around sexual and reproductive health.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of or experience in sexuality education or sexual and reproductive health.
  • Experience using athenahealth for electronic health records.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient intake, including collecting full medical and sexual health history, recording patient vitals, providing patient education and counseling, assisting with exams, and performing lab tests as necessary.
  • Assist clinicians with the examination and treatment of patients.
  • Provide sexual and reproductive health counseling, educational and referral services, including providing STI (including HIV) counseling and testing services, gender affirming health services, values based contraceptive counseling, and full spectrum pregnancy options counseling and services.
  • Assist with a wide variety of activities relevant to abortion care and vasectomy procedures, including informed consent, providing physician and/or patient support, monitoring patient recovery, emergency triage, room turnover, and equipment processing.
  • Prepare exam and procedure rooms, assuring adequate stock of all necessary medical supplies; sterilize instruments; maintain standard inventory items, including both medical and patient educational supplies.
  • Perform daily quality controls to ensure compliance with CLIA laboratory regulations.
  • Perform waived and moderately complex lab testing, including requisition preparation/ submission and managing specimens in accordance with HealthQ protocols and in compliance with governmental regulations and standards.
  • Enter complete and accurate information in electronic health records systems, internal logs, and databases.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members through direct observation and explanation of core tasks.
  • Provide backup to Patient Care Coordinators as needed.
