About The Position

The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility. This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection. The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing. Additionally, this role requires effective communication skills to answer phones, schedule appointments, and coordinate with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare staff. Ultimately, the Medical Assistant contributes to delivering high-quality patient care and enhancing the overall efficiency of the healthcare team. Requirements

  • Medical Assisting, phlebotomy, and specimen processing are essential for performing clinical tasks accurately and efficiently, ensuring patient safety and quality care.
  • Proficiency with medical instruments and sterilization techniques helps maintain a hygienic environment and prevents infection.
  • Drawing blood and taking vital signs are daily activities that require precision and attention to detail to support diagnostic processes.
  • Communication skills, including answering phones and coordinating with Nurse Practitioners, facilitate smooth patient flow and effective teamwork.
  • Proficiency in taking and recording vital signs accurately.
  • Familiarity with sterilization techniques and medical instrument handling.
  • Strong communication skills for patient interaction and administrative tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Certification in phlebotomy and knowledge of specimen collection procedures.
  • Experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners or in a clinical healthcare setting.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional training in patient care or medical office administration.
  • Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse patient population.
  • Preferred skills like familiarity with EHR systems and bilingual communication enhance the ability to manage patient information and serve a broader community effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners, during medical procedures and examinations.
  • Perform phlebotomy duties such as drawing blood and handling specimens according to established protocols.
  • Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and ensure compliance with infection control standards.
  • Manage specimen processing and documentation accurately to support laboratory analysis.
  • Answer phones, schedule patient appointments, and provide information to patients as needed.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to healthcare regulations and policies.
