About The Position

A certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The medical assistant assists in the delivery of health care for patients per their scope of practice, in the ambulatory areas of Erlanger. This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State guidelines and are trained and assigned to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited or governed program, military equivalent training or one year of clinical medical assistant experience within the last 5 years
  • BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and to be maintained going forward.

Responsibilities

  • Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
  • Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
  • Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, collecting patient history
  • Performing screenings per provider guideline
  • Assisting providers/nurses with various procedures, charting, relaying instructions to patients/families, answering calls and providing pertinent. information.
  • Sending/receiving patient medical records
  • Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Completing forms/requisitions as needed
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics
  • Managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
  • Reviewing in basket messages
  • Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols
  • Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Running quality controls on equipment as required and documenting/record keeping.
  • Maintaining logs: Refrigerator Sample log Quality control logs
  • Ordering, sorting, stocking supplies
  • Restocking exam/procedure rooms as needed
  • Respecting/promoting patient rights
  • Responding appropriately to emergency codes
  • Sharing problems relating to patient and/or staff with immediate supervisor
  • Aseptic technique

  • Instrument wrapping/autoclaving

  • Preparation for physical exam
