Berks Counseling Center is a recovery-oriented behavioral health, physical health, and supportive services organization providing a holistic approach to a culturally and economically diverse population for the purpose of achieving a healthy and productive lifestyle. As a Medical Assistant, you will be a liaison between the patients and on-site/community providers to assure access to coordinated primary and behavioral health care. You will be responsible for physical health screenings, including collection of health vitals and enrollment into onsite integrated care services. You will also perform prior authorization, communication with pharmacies and community providers to ensure collaboration and coordination of care, referrals to specialists, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Degree or training and High School / GED
  • To be Basic Life Support certified
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week within agency hours of operation, which are 8am-8pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4pm Friday with Saturday hours, when applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Have CCMA or MA certification
  • Have one (1) year training or experience relevant to working in a medical office with mental health or substance use treatment
  • Be Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
  • Community Health Workers certification
  • Have Knowledge of or experience with trauma-informed approaches preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for the physician by taking vital signs; height and weight; reviewing and/or recording medical history; interviewing patients and confirming purpose of visit.
  • Greet patients in polite, prompt, helpful manner and provides any necessary instructions/directions.
  • Obtain and enter new patient demographics; update patient information, as necessary, in the computer system to maintain accuracy of medical records and for billing purposes.
  • Review all forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies prior to accepting.
  • Educate patients by providing medication and home care instructions; explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians’ instructions to patients and ask for assistance from licensed staff as appropriate.
  • Collect laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
