About The Position

The Medical Assistant is involved in both the clinical and administrative areas assisting behavioral clinic healthcare providers with patient care during face to face and telemedicine office visits. As well as handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. The Medical Assistant works under general supervision of the nursing supervisor providing clinical support to clinic prescribers and nursing. Responsibilities include patient scheduling, and check in. Documenting individual care interventions, LAI injections, phlebotomy, and client education. Assisting with dynamic clinic flow, and other duties as assigned to meet complex needs for clinic and patients served. Service Excellence Medical Flow Sheet initiated with each appointment scheduled. Ensures Medical Flow sheet is completed, and resource materials offered when indicated. Takes and records vital signs. Promptly reports vital signs, lab results, and/or physical or mental health screening results that require further attention by the prescriber or nurse as indicated. Remain available. Assist in effectively setting up remote access connections between the prescriber and the individual as needed for tele-health visits. Medication Related Services Follow-up on medication calls and documents appropriately in the electronic health record. Monitor and manage refill requests Follows med ordering refill protocols: verifying refill request in EHR and effectively troubleshoot refill request with Supervisor and/or individual if refill cannot be processed Understands and implements trauma informed care practices. Integrity Encourages collaboration, healthy boundaries, and positive relationships within the team. Staff will interact with peers in a positive and encouraging manner. Shares ideas and techniques as well as his/her clinical expertise with team members. Willing to explain and teach information to fellow team members. Sets a positive example of appropriate behavior for other team members, interns, and students. Stewardship of Resources Staff utilizes company cell phone, tablet, car, and any other materials provided for work time appropriately and in accordance with LifePath Systems Policy and Procedure For company vehicles: Staff turns in car mileage sheets monthly, reports all concerns to the appropriate individuals as soon as possible and maintains the car’s physical and electrical maintenance (regular car washes, oil change, etc.) Staff keeps items provided by LifePath Systems in good working condition and adheres to confidentiality and privacy standards. Long- Acting Injectable Antipsychotics Management Prior Authorization for Medication Request submitted to individual’s insurer within 3 business days when injections have been prescribed. (When required by the insurer) Patient Assistance Program applications signed by individual and submitted to the Patient Assistance Program specialist within 3 business days. (If medication is not covered by a different pay source) Schedule and administer Injectable as ordered by prescriber. Staff all cases with the prescriber when individual is not compliant. Accurate, thorough, and timely documentation required.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certificate from one of the following required: 1. CMA –American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) 2. RMA—American Medical Technologists (AMT) 3. CCMA—National Health Career Association (NHA) 4. NRCMA through National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Be able to complete detailed, yet concise documentation on all services provided.
  • Ability to write clearly and professionally.
  • Can think clearly and logically.
  • Knowledge of outpatient physical systems and treatment approaches.
  • Good computer knowledge and the ability to learn new software systems.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver License and good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders strongly preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistance in a clinic setting desired.
