About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides direct patient care to assigned patients to Women’s Health. The MA works under the direct supervision of the clinic nurse(s) by assisting in the examination and treatment of patients. Prepares treatment rooms for examination. Assists with medical procedures and examinations Conducts patient interviews, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and phlebotomy. Performs EKG’s, dressing changes. Administers approved medications. Researches and scribes physicians’. Orders/accession orders for clinical laboratory or appropriate processing center. Performs administrative tasks by registering and scheduling patients for appointments, procedures, etc. using the various registration and scheduling systems.

Requirements

  • High School, GED or formal educational equivalent
  • Current BLS
  • Completion of Accredited Medical Assistant training program
  • Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • One (1) or more years of MA experience

Responsibilities

  • Takes and records medical histories and vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight/height).
  • Collects lab samples and prepare patients for examinations.
  • Prepare treatment/exam rooms for procedures and assist nurses or providers during exams and simple clinical tasks.
  • Alerts nursing staff or other team members to changes in a patient’s condition, and help maintain adequate supplies for care.
  • Greets patients when they arrive to the clinic.
  • Schedules, registers, and checks out patients using clinic systems.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and collects payments, issues receipts when needed.
  • Documents patient care activities, clinical findings, lab sample collections, and other patient interactions in the medical record.
  • Observes and reports unsafe conditions or issues requiring prompt intervention.
  • Provide support and serve as a resource to department members in their duties.
  • Participates in continuing education and professional advancement opportunities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
