The Medical Assistant (MA-C) will support licensed healthcare providers in a correctional clinic in Washington State by performing a mix of clinical and administrative responsibilities. Duties include vital signs monitoring, assisting with examinations and procedures, administering injections, collecting specimens, and maintaining medical records, all under appropriate state-regulated supervision and credentialing guidelines. If applicable, this role supports intake-related processes associated with Medicaid 1115 Reentry Waiver initiatives, including assisting with patient intake workflows, gathering required information, and coordinating with care team members to support continuity of care and program participation

Requirements

  • A current, valid state(s) licensure, certificate and/or credentials documenting ability to practice in applicable role (i.e. MA – C, CMA, LPN, RN, LMHP, etc.).
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program approved by WA DOH.
  • Passing one of the state-approved national MA certification exams (CMA, RMA, NHA, NCMA, or AMCA).
  • A High School diploma or GED is required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
  • Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment.
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient medical histories, vital signs, and prepare patients for clinical care.
  • Assist with examinations, minor procedures, specimen collection (e.g., blood draws, urine testing), and perform EKGs as delegated.
  • Administer injections (IM, IV under supervision, vaccines) following regulatory guidelines and under the supervision of a qualified provider.
  • Document all clinical activities accurately in medical records and support inventory and supply management.
  • Collaborate with medical and security personnel in a correctional environment, maintaining adherence to supervision, safety, and security protocols.
  • Support patient education and clinic workflow efficiency.
  • Medicaid 1115 Reentry Waiver initiatives: Support intake workflows by collecting and documenting patient demographic, insurance, and intake-related information in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist care team members with identifying individuals who may be eligible for reentry-related services and ensure appropriate routing or notification to designated staff.
  • Support coordination of intake-related activities tied to continuity of care, including ensuring required documentation is completed and communicated to appropriate team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
