About The Position

A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Medical Assistant on the Kirksville, Missouri campus. This position reports to the Executive Director Practice Management. The Medical Assistant (MA) provides essential clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurses, and staff in delivering patient care. This role involves preparing patients, assisting with procedures, administering medications, managing records, and maintaining clinical spaces to ensure smooth workflow and quality service.

Requirements

  • High School plus one year of technical training or schooling.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or active certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Prior outpatient clinical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, diseases, medications, procedures, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Familiarity with Family Medicine practices preferred.
  • Three to Six months experience required.
  • Previous experience in an outpatient clinical setting preferred.
  • Phlebotomy, injections, EKGs, spirometry, sterile technique.
  • Proficiency with EMRs and basic computer skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Team-oriented with a compassionate, professional demeanor.
  • Patient education and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work on feet in fast paced outpatient clinic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with procedures and exams across specialties, including OMM, OB-GYN, and Family Medicine.
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs (TPR, blood pressure, height/weight).
  • Administer medications, injections, and vaccines as permitted.
  • Collect and prepare specimens for lab work and point-of-care tests.
  • Order radiology tests, perform pre-certifications, and make referral calls as directed.
  • Call in prescriptions and serve as a liaison between provider and patient.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans and procedures.
  • Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Clean and stock exam rooms and equipment; autoclave instruments.
  • Maintain an organized stock of medications, medical supplies, and samples.
  • Perform and maintain competencies in spirometry, EKGs, glucose monitoring, well-woman exams, cryotherapy, and colposcopy.
  • Assist with insurance verification and navigation of pre-certification websites.
  • Collaborate on billing requirements and coding accuracy.
  • Order laboratory supplies and requisitions.
  • Deep clean and restock clinic rooms and chart areas.
  • Transport x-rays and manage clinic-related errands.
