About The Position

SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant provides support to Gateway’s Children’s Services, Adult General Outpatient, and Substance Use Services Divisions under the umbrella of Gateway’s CCBHC Services and with supervision from the Nurse Supervisor/Trainer. The position’s primary function is to promote the overall psychiatric and physical health of the populations served through coordination of care with primary and specialty care providers and communication with families, monitoring targeted health indicators and primary care screenings. Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant and/or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience, preferably working with individual with behavioral health conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of car to complete major functions of job.
  • Automobile liability insurance coverage for vehicle being used in accordance with Center requirements.
  • CPR training within 30 working days of employment and maintained annually.
  • Understanding of mental health and substance use diagnoses.
  • Understanding of family systems model of care
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Familiarity with screening/ assessment tools and evidence-based practices relevant to position
  • Oral and written communication skills at a proficient level, ensuring effective and professional communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks such as: lab tracking and data entry, document management, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, verifying medication lists, preparing charts and pre-visit planning.
  • Schedules patient appointments and follow-up tests taking into consideration medical concerns and patient circumstances as desired
  • Supporting clients as they come into the clinic to check vital signs, height and weight and inputting the data not the electronic medical record.
  • Completes screenings using standardized tool to collect information on social determinants of health regarding transportation, housing stability, utilities, food insecurity, domestic violence, tobacco use, and alcohol use.
  • Provides resources to clients as needed based on information collected on the social determinants of health.
  • Assists client/family in scheduling appointments and lab work, relaying details to the client, and assisting with arranging transportation if needed.
  • Monitors Hospital Log information daily and inputs data into the medical record.
  • Maintains detailed, accurate, and timely documentation in medical record.
  • Communicates information to the care team in a timely manner.
  • Attends supervision, agency, and team staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Engages in trainings on evidence-based practice models specific to their assigned population, including motivational interviewing, implementing learned skills in daily interventions.
  • Follows agency policies and standards for client rights and confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
