About The Position

The Medical Assistant will assist nurses or providers with procedures and examinations, perform CLIA waived laboratory procedures, and conduct health assessments including vital signs, weight, and height. This role involves maintaining stock and general upkeep of examining rooms and the lab, educating patients on health care issues, and accurately documenting in medical records. The Medical Assistant will also participate in the Health Disparities Collaborative by collecting data, educating patients, and maintaining documentation. Additional duties include interviewing patients for medical information, preparing patients and examination rooms, administering medications as directed by a physician, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and explaining treatment procedures, medications, and diets to patients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Professional license/Specialized training, One-year certificate from college or technical school
  • Completion of formal training program as a medical assistant.
  • Current and valid Florida medical assistant certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification

Responsibilities

  • Assists nurses or providers with procedures and examination procedures as needed.
  • Performs CLIA waived laboratory procedures.
  • Performs specific functions in conjunction with health assessment such as vital signs, weight, height, etc.
  • Assists in maintaining stock for examining rooms/lab and general maintenance of examining rooms/lab.
  • Serves as a patient educator by providing information on specific health care issues.
  • Documents accurately in the medical record.
  • Participate in the Health Disparities Collaborative by collecting data, educating patients, and maintaining adequate documentation
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for provider.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by the physician
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians’ instructions to patients
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
