About The Position

Job Summary: The Great Sacramento Surgery Center (GSSC) is a freestanding, fast-paced multi-specialty ASC that performs over 6000 procedures per year. The Medical Assistant will support the registered nurses in the Pre-Op and PACU setting with duties to include patient care within their scope of practice, housekeeping, stocking, and other needs as determined by the Director of Nursing. Essential Job Functions: Supervised by the Pre-op and PACU Charge Nurse. Assist in the preparation of patients for surgical procedures. Assists with printing interval notes for patient charts. Assists with recording vital signs. Assists with obtaining urine pregnancy results. Assists in making and answering phone calls (based on unit secretarial needs). Keeping the Pre-Op/PACU areas clean and straightened, including the nursing stations, workstations, secondary recovery area (including recliner chairs) and the restrooms, during work hours. Restocks Pre-Op/PACU areas including the nursing stations, workstations, secondary recovery area (including recliner chairs) and the restrooms, during work hours. Clean and remakes gurneys in a timely manner. Cleans receivers on the phones and countertops in Pre-op and PACU. Terminally cleans (weekly) all PACU gurneys, recliners and wheelchairs and documents cleaning. Removing soiled linens from work areas. Unloads, sorts, folds and restocks clean linens as necessary. May deliver basic, limited patient care under the direction of the registered nurse, including the discharge of patients via wheelchair to their private cars. Practices cost containment measures. Restocks supplies in Pre-op and PACU. Restocks O2 tanks under gurneys and restock O2 tank cart from Medical Gas storage area. Reports to the Purchasing Agent (week and/or as needed) with an inventory list of supplies collected from the storeroom and documents it. Performs miscellaneous duties under the direction of the registered nurse. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Training in basic nursing assistant skills
  • Successful completion of BLS
  • A high level of awareness of patient needs, confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Able to push and pull both occupied and unoccupied wheelchairs and gurneys.
  • Must have knowledge of basic safety and proper body mechanics.
  • Assist with patient transfers including (but not limited to) from gurney to wheelchair and wheelchair to private vehicle.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective gear such as goggles, face mask, gloves and gowns.
  • Must be able to tolerate marked changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Able to perform repetitive hand movements from light to strong grasping and fine dexterity.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
