About The Position

Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant primarily provides clinical and administrative support to our OB/GYN physicians and other clinical staff. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills and be able to be empathetic towards patients while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Must have a current valid certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of patient care techniques, administering injections, drawing blood, taking vitals and performing basic lab tests.
  • Knowledge of sterilization processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer service skills in handling patient questions and concerns with professionalism, empathy and patience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and problem-solving patient concerns or conflicts.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking.
  • Manual ability for handling instruments and equipment.
  • Minimum 3 years Medical Assisting experience in a specialty medical practice, preferably OB/GYN.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of an EMR preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish helpful but not required

Responsibilities

  • Verifying patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, giving patients injections and drawing blood.
  • Securing patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding electronic and paper medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Assist with sterilizing equipment / maintain proper working knowledge of the Autoclave.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patients including stocking with proper supplies and cleaning after each patient visit.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in EHR system.
  • Assist provider with in-office exams and procedures while ensuring patient comfort.
  • Educate patients on reproductive health, prenatal care, contraception, and other health related concerns.
  • Sterilize equipment and exam rooms after each patient visit.
  • Schedule patients for visits and follow ups.
