About The Position

At American Family Care, Medical Assistants are crucial to clinic operations, blending clinical skills, patient service, and administrative expertise. This role involves front-desk duties, insurance verification, and direct patient care. Responsibilities include triaging patients, collecting vitals and histories, performing various point-of-care tests (COVID, flu, strep, glucose, A1C, UA), assisting with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy. Additionally, Medical Assistants register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain accurate Electronic Medical Records (EMR). They are also responsible for educating patients on clinical procedures and financial expectations, providing discharge instructions, and de-escalating concerns professionally. The position requires participation in daily huddles, maintaining compliance logs, and upholding infection control and HIPAA standards. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire
  • At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting)
  • EMR proficiency
  • Comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar)
  • Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check as a condition of employment
  • Full availability including ability to work evenings/weekends and float to nearby centers as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued
  • Experity EMR preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy
  • Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays
  • Reconcile payment logs and maintain EMR accuracy
  • Educate patients on both clinical procedures and financial expectations
  • Provide clear discharge instructions
  • De-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism
  • Participate in daily huddles
  • Maintain compliance logs (crash cart, fridge temps, etc.)
  • Support infection-control and HIPAA standards
