About The Position

Capital Area Pediatrics offers accessible, comprehensive pediatric care to families at six practice locations throughout Northern Virginia. For both sickness and health, generations of families have chosen Capital Area Pediatrics to provide outstanding care and an exceptional patient experience. We are currently hiring an experienced Medical Assistant to provide clinical care at our Specialty Clinic located in Vienna, Virginia. We are in the process of expanding the services offered at this location, additional hours will become available in the future for those interested. This position will primarily support sick visits in coordination with a Capital Area Pediatrics NP or Physician. The starting schedule for this position is Monday-Tuesday 6:45AM-11:15AM. This is to support the patient hours of 7:00AM-11:00AM. As the services at this location expand, additional hours will first be offered to this incumbunt before additional hires are made. Please note that all new hires are required to attend New Hire Orientation. New Hire Orientation for this position mandatory, and is 9:00AM-4:30PM on Monday and Tuesday the first week of employment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active CMA, RMA, NCMA, or CCMA credential required. There are no exceptions to this certification requirement.
  • At least six (6) months of direct patient care experience as a Medical Assistant required.
  • Must have pediatric POCT experience including throat and nasal swabs.
  • Practical understanding of OSHA, HIPPA, and CDC Guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience administering immunizations for pediatric patients is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient records for past medical problems, medication and immunization status, drug allergies, risk factors, and other pertinent information.
  • Interview patients and/or family members for appropriate information and obtain vital statistics indicated for the age, gender, and type of visit.
  • Perform laboratory testing and administer vaccines, analgesics, and nebulization treatments in accordance with established standards and office policy.
  • Observe, document, and report to provider and nursing staff patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments.
  • Complete applicable documentation for the patient visit.
  • Conduct basic parent and child education to include anticipatory guidance in accordance with office policy and as delegated by providers and leadership.
  • Role model excellent clinical skills with patients.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously while demonstrating a caring attitude toward patients and family.
  • Follow universal precautions, OSHA standards, and HIPAA regulations to include maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Perform additional responsibilities to support the needs of the practice and patient families.
  • Other duties as assigned.
