About The Position

Sentara Medical Group is hiring a Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Medical Assistant provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees. The role involves providing patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties as appropriate. It requires the ability to objectively assess situations, consider alternatives, assist with action plans, and evaluate outcomes. The Medical Assistant is expected to demonstrate specific skills and knowledge, engage in effective inter-departmental interactions, and adhere to department and system policies, procedures, and practices. The position emphasizes productivity and efficiency in daily operations, utilizing resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Must have one of the following Certifications: Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified EMT (EMT-B, AEMT, or Paramedic)
  • BLS within 90 days of hire date
  • Less than a year of related experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations.
  • Perform tasks and procedures as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Provide an environment for safety; identify, address, and incorporate principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees.
  • Provide patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate).
  • Demonstrate the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a few viewpoints, consider an array of alternatives, assist with the development of realistic action plans and evaluate outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Be productive and efficient in daily operations.
  • Utilize appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.
