About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) position is responsible for medical testing, assisting the nursing and provider staff with the exam process, and the maintenance of medical record documentation in accordance with Occupational Medical Services at the Hanford environmental restoration site in Richland, Washington. Adhere to AAAHC guidelines/standards to maintain accreditation. Operating at the top of a MA licensure, and within licensure scope of practice. This is a mandatory union position.

Requirements

  • The Medical Assistant shall possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Able to obtain Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant credentials with the department of health.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred but not required. Able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical/clinical environment preferred.
  • Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC certification preferred but not required. Able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health certification (NIOSH) preferred but not required. Able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Urine Drug Screening and Breath alcohol testing certifications preferred but not required. Able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communications and documents.
  • Capable of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Ability to work within defined time requirements and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate effective personal interaction.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain composure during emergency or stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and adherence to HIPAA law.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication (e.g., writing reports, e-mail correspondence, oral presentations, compilation of data, data manipulation, basic computer skills, standard office software utilizing Microsoft Office and the Internet)

Responsibilities

  • Interview patient and measure pulse, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, height, and weight as needed.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patient.
  • Teach patient self-care and education regarding testing.
  • Perform audiometric tests for clinic patients in accordance with CAOHC (Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation) standards. Obtain CAOHC certification to perform audiometry testing.
  • Perform Spirometry testing (Pulmonary function testing). Obtain NIOSH certification to perform Spirometry.
  • Conducts electrocardiograms.
  • Perform Urine drug screens and breath alcohol testing.
  • Perform Vision exams.
  • Perform CUA wave testing.
  • Observe/gather patient history/symptoms and report to provider/nursing team accurately.
  • Observe universal precautions regarding bloodborne pathogens for patient and person protection.
  • Maintain medical charts and review for completeness and accuracy.
  • Properly secure all medical records and confidential information in accordance with established operating procedures, federal and state laws.
  • Maintain and utilize a variety of records.
  • Back-up coverage for Patient Registration Specialist.
  • Demonstrate professional etiquette to respond to patient requests or complaints.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, and patients.
  • Adhere to and foster acceptable health and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
