About The Position

The Medical Assistant supports Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Registered Nurses in delivering safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive gastrointestinal and hepatology care. This role ensures efficient clinical operations, high-quality patient experiences, and compliance with all regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • CNA or CMA certification preferred, but not required.
  • Two year certificate from college or technical school; or minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Maintains knowledge, skills and abilities through ongoing education.
  • Completes all mandatory reviews/educational required and assigned.
  • One to three years related experience and/or training
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Is actively committed to meeting / exceeding employee expectations / satisfaction in the performance of job functions.
  • Maintains compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements. Acts promptly to comply with required changes.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centered care with a focus on safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Assist with patient intake: greet, take vital signs, biometrics, medical history, allergies, and current symptoms.
  • Communicate patient concerns, symptoms, and abnormal findings to the provider.
  • Assist with specimens, complete lab requisitions, prepare pick-ups, and update labs with accurate diagnosis codes.
  • Perform and support GI procedures including breath tests and capsule endoscopy (pill cam).
  • Educate patients on conditions, procedures, and plans of care.
  • Coordinate smooth and timely patient flow throughout clinic visits.
  • Respond promptly to patient questions, refill requests, authorizations, scheduling needs, and referrals.
  • Conduct triage calls according to protocol, including sick calls, and follow up with patients regarding treatment plans and reminders.
  • Answer phones, direct calls appropriately, or initiate consult/triage tickets.
  • Schedule appointments and enter them accurately in the EHR.
  • Document all patient information accurately in the EHR and close tasks to support continuity of care and meaningful use requirements.
  • Maintain medical charts with complete and current information.
  • Ensure orders for labs, imaging, and procedures are submitted, scheduled, and routed to providers promptly.
  • Utilize universal precautions and adhere to infection control policies, OSHA, HIPAA, AAAHC, and CDHA standards.
  • Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe environment in exam rooms, equipment areas, and patient spaces.
  • Restock supplies and dispose of expired items.
  • Demonstrate a strong focus on patient safety in every interaction.
  • Follow and comply with all organizational safety policies.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical team members to support high-quality patient care.
  • Uphold CDHA’s mission, contribute to organizational goals, and promote teamwork and service excellence.
  • Actively participate in workplace improvements and quality initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
