About The Position

The Medical Assistant will provide medical services to Adults in Custody (AIC) referred to by the Health Services Department at FCC-Pollock. Services rendered should be professional in nature and consistent with community standards of care. The Medical Assistant has sole responsibility and discretion for choosing and implementing the manner and method of performing tasks outlined in this Statement of Work (provided all requirements are met in accordance with the policies described below). Medical Assistant shall adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations during the performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must have completed a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course of study completion diploma is required.
  • Member of a national association The American Association of Medical Assistants, National Healthcareer Association, and other related organizations.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Taking patient medical histories and preparing medical data for provider visits.
  • Preparing pertinent forms for Physicians and/or Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Maintaining office and patient care-related supplies.
  • Scheduling and coordinating patient appointments for medical providers and visiting clinical specialty consultants in the management of patient flow through the chronic care clinics, sick-call appointments, and physical examinations, optometry, and general clinics when scheduled.
  • Communicating patient messages to the medical providers.
  • Entering and updating patient information in the Electronic Medical Records System (BEMR).
  • Assisting with clinical procedures by preparing instruments and retrieving desired items from the Pyxis machine.
  • Immunization Administration.
  • Wound Care.
  • Suture Removal.
  • Patient Education.
  • Cleaning Exam Room.
  • Operation of EKG Machine.
  • Maintain supplies in all exam rooms.
  • Nasal Swabs.
  • Draw blood from patients for analysis or other medical purposes.
  • Collect and process Urinalysis Screening eye exams and assisting physicians and mid-level practitioners in minor surgical cases.
  • Call for inmates who are a no-show for scheduled appointments
  • Answer radio traffic for the department
  • Send inmate notifications to inmates regarding scheduled appointments
  • Maintain supplies in all exam rooms.
  • Receive inmate passes, pull, file, and copy medical records.
  • Other duties as assigned by the HSA or designee.
