About The Position

The Medical Assistant at Sentara Medical Group Comprehensive Weight Loss Kempsville Office performs patient care, administrative, and clerical tasks and procedures. These duties are based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and are delegated by and performed under the direction/supervision of a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The role emphasizes creating a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees by identifying, addressing, and incorporating safety principles. The Medical Assistant is expected to objectively assess situations, consider alternatives, assist with action plans, and evaluate outcomes. They must demonstrate specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, engage in effective inter-departmental interactions, and adhere to department and system policies and procedures. The position requires productivity and efficiency in daily operations, utilizing resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.

Requirements

• HS Diploma
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or EMT Basic Certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days from hire

Nice To Haves

• Clinical/Adminsirative Experience 1 year preferred

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care and administrative and clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees.
• Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate).
• Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a number of viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes.
• Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices.
• Productive and efficient in daily operations.
• Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.
