Under the direction of the clinic supervisor, the medical assistant is responsible for the receiving of patients, preparing the patients to be seen by the provider, and assisting the provider as requested in the delivery of care to the patient. The medical assistant works with patients and is knowledgeable with regard to the clinic’s patient education program and provides educational materials to the patient when appropriate. The medical assistant is also responsible for the maintenance of supplies and equipment. This role involves completing any required appointment prep process in advance of the patient's scheduled appointment, routinely and appropriately preparing exam rooms for patient appointments and potential procedures, and maintaining an even patient flow to maximize treatment time and patient volume. The medical assistant will room patients, gather required information and vitals, and document patient care information accurately and timely in the electronic health record. They will perform basic treatments and procedures, administer medication as ordered, and demonstrate competence with specific clinical skills and familiarity with clinic/hospital policy and procedures. Additional duties include scheduling follow-up appointments/tests, informing patients, answering patient questions, providing instructions/educational materials, and communicating clearly with providers, supervisors, co-workers, and ancillary departments. The position requires continuous learning, attending meetings, completing training modules, and proficient use of computer programs, while prioritizing work and maintaining a cooperative attitude.
