About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our Ambulatory Department. Reporting to the Director, Outpatient Services, you will provide quality care and health related coordination services to patients in a fast paced out-patient medical clinic. This includes supporting physicians in obtaining up to date demographic and health information, answering telephones, scheduling office visits, ordering and stocking supplies for respective physicians, registering patients. Facilitating pharmacy services, facilitating care with other physician offices and ancillary services within the hospital, providing up to date testing information in patients chart for physician review, and entering charges in computer.

Requirements

  • High Scholl Diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of comparable experience at a physician office or a hospital based out-patient clinic.
  • Phlebotomy Training/Competency at Loretto Hospital within 45 days of employment of date.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and interacts with patients in respectful and courteous manner.
  • Performs routine clinical functions to prepare patient for examination or procedure and assists provider if necessary.
  • Alerts physician to any life-threatening complaints or dangerously aberrant vital signs.
  • Completes all required documentation related to patient care as prescribed by the provider and/or hospital either via paper charting or use of an electronic health record.
  • Performs diagnostic tests such as glucose testing.
  • May perform routine individual patient follow-up procedures such as blood pressure checks and blood draws.
  • Facilitates care coordination with other departments of the hospital and external physician offices.
  • Answer’s telephone and directs to appropriate party or gives out limited factual advice when requested by patient.
  • Performs service duties such as cleaning work areas, cleaning instruments, sterilizing instruments and stocking and ordering of supplies.
  • Coordinate’s patient care by obtaining test results, ordering medication and other necessary supplies for at home care.
  • Assists physician in completion of encounter forms and enters information into computer system.
  • Maintains positive attitude and works well with team and other hospital departments.
  • Proficient at performing several tasks at a time.
  • Communicates any concerns related to work environment or task assignment to manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
