About The Position

Performs a range of clinical, administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient medical operation under the supervision of the LPN, RN, NP or MD. Duties and responsibilities may vary according to assigned site, clinic, or service line (ie: Primary Care, Mental Health, Addictions, Corrections, etc.)

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Phlebotomy skills, ability to draw blood, run EKG and give injections per scope of practice (OAC Rule 51630-4-03)
  • Basic computer skills with ability to learn new software
  • Adhere to acceptable professional/clinical boundaries and confidentiality
  • Ability to work cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • 1-2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant with 1 year in a medical setting
  • Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient; recording basic medical history; surgical history; family and social history; confirm visit purpose and update changes prior to each appointment
  • Performs administrative tasks including answering phone calls, greeting patients, updating and filing patients’ medical records; complete insurance forms for billing; manage correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
  • Organize and schedule appointments for patients during visit; arrange hospital admissions, surgical and laboratory services with center; verify times with patients; prepare charts, preadmission and consent forms; ensure medical card is scanned into EHR; check insurance coverage for accuracy
  • Assist with medical examinations and procedures; prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical test or review of systems; take and record vital signs including blood pressure, weight and temperature; provide therapeutic injections after proper training and supervision by a medical provider
  • Prepare, arrange and maintain cleanliness and sanitation of examine rooms, work area, with examining-room instruments and equipment prior to patient appointments
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory test on the premises; dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilized disposal medical instruments utilized
  • Collaborate in sharing information with other members of the medical team
  • Assist patients, family members or other patients with concern and empathy; respects their confidentiality and privacy
  • Maintain safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; comply with legal regulations
  • Manage and maintain medical supplies inventory; place supply orders for new materials as needed; perform preventative maintenance to keep equipment operating
  • Manage and maintain patient medical records to ensure compliance
  • Other duties as assigned
