Under direct supervision of the provider, the Medical Assistant will be responsible for patient assessment and care, and maintaining appropriate documentation. This position requires basic knowledge of specialty and/or primary care to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients. The Medical Assistant coordinates care to assure high quality, compassionate patient care, maintains and oversees patients at office locations, and acts as a liaison with other organizations and departments. They may be required to order medical, pharmacy, and office supplies. The role ensures compliance with MyMichigan Health policies/procedures, OSHA guidelines, CLIA regulations, and other regulatory agencies. They will also coordinate with and train new employees, students, and float staff. Clinical duties include patient education, assisting with specialty care modalities, symptom management, being available for emergencies, monitoring compliance and care management effects for high-risk patients, educating on prescriptions, and ensuring continuity of care with other providers. General office duties such as keyboarding, filing, telephone, computer, and office equipment use may also be performed. The specific expectations may vary slightly by practice, and the immediate supervisor will clarify responsibilities.
