About The Position

The Non-Certified Medical Assistant provides basic clinical and administrative support to healthcare professionals. This role involves assisting with patient care, managing office tasks, and maintaining a welcoming environment in the healthcare setting, working under the supervision of certified medical staff. The Non-Certified Medical Assistant plays a supportive role in ensuring a seamless patient experience and efficient clinic operations, contributing to quality healthcare delivery.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Association accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS) (for clinical staff), or Heart Saver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis, with up to a three-month grace period after the expiration date.
  • Basic clinical and administrative skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience in a clinical setting is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a medical assistant training program preferred.
  • Certification not required; continued education and learning to sit for certification within first year.

Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare providers with routine patient examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare examination rooms by cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Record patient information such as vital signs and medical histories.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage the patient flow.
  • Assist in operations, including answering phones, managing workload bucket(s), refilling prescriptions, maintaining medication sample(s) log, and cross covering within other departments.
  • Provide patients with basic instructions for medication and follow-up care based on provider instructions.
  • Performs phlebotomy and other CLIA Waived testing, observe urine collection as well as preparing batch(s) for laboratory.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with clinic safety protocols and procedures. Assist patients as needed to maintain safety (i.e. Mobility).
  • Assist with inventory management by tracking and ordering supplies.
  • Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers.
  • Obtaining prior authorizations.
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to a positive clinic environment.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop new skills in clinical care.
  • Chart preparation, including immunizations, discharge summary, continuation of care referrals, lab results, VA authorizations, and notes on referrals.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
