The Medical Assistant – Prescription Refills & Hospital Admits provides clinical support under the direction of a provider, ensuring efficient prescription management, timely hospital admission assistance, and high-quality patient care. This role maintains a clean and safe clinic environment, supports daily clinical operations, and provides mentoring to Level I Medical Assistants within the same clinic. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced oncology setting.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a medical facility as a Medical Assistant or in a similar healthcare setting.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through: AAMA, NHA, NCCT, NAHP, or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Registry of Medical Assistants
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with patients, families, and physicians.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical competencies required for Level 2 Medical Assistants.
  • Ability to begin patient visits with professional, compassionate engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in EMR usage, documentation, and reviewing clinical reports using evidence-based guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in motivational interviewing and teach-back techniques.
  • Ability to act quickly during emergencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a healthcare facility.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary clinic contact for all prescription refill requests and act as backup for hospital admissions.
  • Monitor group inboxes and address patient needs that do not require nursing judgment (e.g., rescheduling, paperwork).
  • Proactively support physicians and clinical staff by fulfilling patient care responsibilities as needed.
  • Set up exam rooms, instruments, and equipment to ensure readiness for patient visits.
  • Perform clinical medical assisting duties, including accurate documentation within the EMR system.
  • Provide mentoring and support to Level I Medical Assistants within the clinic.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing and teach-back methods during patient interactions.
  • Respond appropriately and promptly to emergency situations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and patient-focused clinical environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
