Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Certified Medical Assistant provides clerical and clinical support to ensure efficient, patient centered operations within the healthcare program. This position performs scheduling, insurance verification, and referral coordination while supporting an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) aboard a mobile health unit serving communities in West Tennessee.

  • Schedules and confirms patient appointments for mobile and clinic-based visits.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and demographic information.
  • Answers phones, triage messages, and routes calls appropriately.
  • Coordinates specialist referrals, tracks referral status, and ensures documentation completion.
  • Assists the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with patient flow during mobile health unit operations, including check-in and basic clinical support as needed.
  • Prepares the mobile health unit for daily operation, including stocking supplies and verifying equipment readiness.
  • Take and records vital signs, assists with specimen collection, and performs point-of-care testing under APRN supervision.
  • Collaborates with community partners, schools, and health departments to coordinate patient access.
  • Supports billing processes by collecting copays, obtaining preauthorization, and ensuring claim readiness.
  • Performs duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
  • EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience as a medical assistant.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must have licensure as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of EMR systems.
  • Skilled using Microsoft software including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Excellent organization skills and persistent follow through with delegated tasks.
  • Ability to consistently achieve assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with the community.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone/virtual meeting skills.
  • Ability to coordinate, administer, and follow-up with patient appointments.
