Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant Training Program or applicants who can demonstrate their competency through relevant work experience as detailed in their resume. Alternatively, individuals who are currently enrolled in an accredited nursing school who have successfully completed Fundamentals of Nursing and two clinical rotations, who also provide a letter recommendation from at least one clinical professor will also be considered.
  • Basic Life Support Certification

  • Strong communication skills (i.e., verbal, written, listening).
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Actively participate as a member of the care team.
  • Show empathy, kindness, respect and sensitivity to patient, families and colleagues.
  • Technical skills and manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks (i.e., vital signs, ECGs, injections, patient prep, etc.)
  • Administrative skills (i.e., telephone etiquette, patient scheduling, provider schedule management, multitasking, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for ensuring all forms, external records, and charting has been completed for the provider prior to the visit.
  • Monitor provider schedules for booking errors and correct using established guidelines.
  • Receive patients, confirm the reason for the visit, obtain histories, vital signs, and other required tests.
  • Obtain need for mediation refills and update patient requests in the Chief Complaint.
  • Responsible for assisting and answering calls for the provider and/or care team and documents messages fully and accurately.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, and procedures.
  • Follows established guidelines to properly prepare instruments for sterilization and autoclaving.
  • Properly dispose of medical waste and sharps.
  • Accurately complete forms and documents.
  • Maintain departmental logs as required.
  • Stay informed and maintain competencies by seeking out training opportunities.
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and all other licensing standards.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests per Thundermist policies and protocols.
  • Properly operate and maintain clinical equipment.
  • Document clearly and concisely in patient progress notes and telephone encounters to ensure accurate dissemination of patient information.
  • Promptly notify appropriate staff of any supply shortages, medical equipment damages, or missing equipment to ensure a smooth functioning clinical operation.
  • Ensure readiness of charts, records, documents, and forms for the provider/patient visit.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests and administer immunizations based on established guidelines.
  • Prepare patients based on visit type and assist providers with procedures as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all clinical and work areas and stock exam rooms appropriately.
  • Manage current inventory by checking for expiration dates and properly dispose of out-of-date supplies.
  • Follow established opening and closing guidelines (i.e., exam rooms, labs, dirty rooms, etc.).
  • Contribute to excellence in patient care by actively supporting other care team members and performing assigned tasks and projects in and timely and accurate manner.
  • Foster a positive work environment and interact professionally and respectfully with colleagues across departments.
  • Uphold professional standards of conduct.
  • Greet patients by using their proper names and pronouns and using two identifiers.
  • Assist providers in exam rooms, maintaining a caring and supportive environment.
  • Collect patient histories and data for the visit with kindness and compassion.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of exam rooms and surrounding clinical areas, contributing to the comfort of patients.
