Requirements

  • High School diploma or Equivalent
  • BLS through the American Heart Association
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: Has attended a medical assistant training program accredited by one of the following: The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools; If your Medical Assistant program was not accredited by one of the above agencies, you will need to have a Medical Assistant Certification issued by one of the following. If needed, we will assist you in obtaining a CCMA certification. National Healthcareer Association: CCMA American Medical Technologist: RMA American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA National Center for Competency Testing: NCMA American Medical Certification Association: CMAC Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000. Was directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000. (Letter from physician, physician group, or physician assistant must be on file)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, to maintain attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric
  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology
  • Must be able to distinguish appropriate colors
  • Incumbent must be capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Capable of walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing
  • Capable of sitting at desk 10% of the time per day; communicating using telephone

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years’ experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner
  • Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures
  • Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital stats, history and reason for seeking care
  • Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
  • Schedules/confirms appointments
  • Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
  • Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider
  • Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations
  • Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens
  • Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests
  • May perform venipuncture
  • Participates in clinical division meetings
