The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in routine medical duties. Prepares and assists with patient exams and procedures. Performs routine test and takes patient vital signs. Receives and records lab results and ensures that patient records are properly maintained and that charts are updated promptly. Forwards medical records to other providers as requested. Clean work area, patient exam rooms, as needed. Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Assists with patient procedure set-ups, and exams. Monitor sedated patients O2 levels. Cleans patient exam rooms and ensures they are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment. Conducts monthly inventories and weekly ordering of medical supplies. Adheres to all blood borne pathogens and universal precautions guidelines. Assists in maintaining center and patient records. Maintains patient confidentiality. Ensures that both in-house and outside lab results are properly recorded, charted, and distributed to medical providers. Completes patient charting assignments as scheduled. Resolves or appropriately refers questions, requests and problems. Obtains and conveys information as needed. Promotes goodwill and positive image of center. Provides patient comfort and support as appropriate. Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Certificate from College or Technical School required. Certified Nursing Assistant or LPN required. Note: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Certification acceptable in lieu of CNA or LPN. CPR certification required. Valid state driver’s license, as applicable required. Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in medical or related field; must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients, physicians and peers required. Ability to work at several locations Strong customer service skills. Organizational and multi-tasking skills. Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs. Local travel may be required. Physical Requirements: The employee may be exposed to radioactive isotopes, ionizing radiation, and a strong magnetic field. May be exposed to radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. More than 50% of the time: Sit, stand, walk. Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs. See, speak and hear to be able to communicate with patients. Less than 50% of the time: Stoop, kneel or crawl. Climb and balance. Carry and lift (ability to move non-ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or to exam).
