Day in the Life The Medical Assistant (MA) provides outstanding support to physicians and healthcare providers while providing exceptional care to patients and customers within the clinical scope of a MA. The MA ensures that patients are welcomed in a warm and friendly manner and sees that their needs and expectations are met. MA's are responsible for ensuring the smooth operations in the fast paced environment of the clinic with the goal of a positive patient experience with every encounter.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program preferred but not required
  • CPR certified preferred
  • Previous experience in Orthopedics setting preferred or urgent care setting is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records systems and other medical systems a plus

Responsibilities

  • Performing administrative office procedures; coordinating appointments and procedures for patients, gathering and managing necessary documents (i.e. medical records, test results, ect)
  • Triage patients and respond to phone calls, and messages
  • Performing clinical activities and procedures including; obtaining patient history and vital signs; including weight/height, and triaging patients upon arrival including Meaningful Use requirements
  • Preparing and maintaining examination and procedure rooms
  • Assisting with examinations, procedures and treatments (i.e. applying casts, DME's, removing sutures, and other related duties
  • Perform injectable set up
  • Perform pre-authorizations for surgeries, and injectable Submit referral for Advocate HMO patients if necessary
  • Recognizing and responding to emergencies
  • Coordinating patient care information in patient records
  • Ensuring availability expiration dates of supplies Knowledge of proper operation of equipment in the examination and procedure rooms
  • Assisting and maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Maintain OSHA and HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Completing other comparable duties and assignments as directed by the clinic Physician, Physician Assistant and/or Clinical Operations Manager
