Assists patients, staff and physicians as needed to maintain a high level of efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care to a designated patient population.

Requirements

  • Certification of completion of a Medical Assistant Program.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Nice To Haves

  • 1 Year MA experience in related clinical area.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants -PREFERRED
  • Hospital Corpsman (HM) - US Navy -PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete Clinical Competencies with a score of 90% or greater in each section.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skill in assigned area and within scope of practice.
  • Perform/assist with all tests and procedures in assigned department.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately per guidelines and written order.
  • Ensure verification by licensed person and documentation of all medications administered including two (2) patient identifier verification.
  • Prepare patient for examination or procedure.
  • Obtain complete and accurate consent for procedures/surgery.
  • Prepare and label biopsies in a thorough and accurate manner.
  • Accurately document patient care per protocol.
  • Partner with physicians to continuously learn and expand clinical knowledge base.
  • Listen to patients, collect pertinent information, recognize the urgency of the patient's problem and route to physicians.
  • Return phone calls according to physician instruction.
  • Schedule patient appointments (may).
  • Review pre-printed teaching materials or written instructions from the provider with the patient (in partnership with physician).
  • Use universal precautions and demonstrate knowledge of infection control policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to PSRs in resolving issues related to front desk responsibilities including scheduling and telephone management.
  • Act as a positive role model and ensure appropriate service delivery.
  • Participate in clinical projects as directed by the physician or manager.
  • Organize and complete daily requirements and responsibilities.
  • Ensure prompt and efficient return of messages according to established policy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problem calls.
  • Monitor patient flow, physician schedules and complete daily tasks to ensure quality and meet service standards.
  • Follow policy and procedure for entering of OCM and utilization of IDX.
  • Complete work within assigned hours.
  • Respond to changing circumstances and prioritize patient needs.
  • Respond to urgent and emergent situations in a calm and capable manner.
  • Utilize good judgment and problem solving ability.
  • Ensure readiness of reports and information to maximize patient visit.
  • Maintain appropriate supply levels.
  • Participate in and prepare for site inspections and inventories.
  • Complete department inventories per guidelines.
  • Enter authorizations and schedule surgeries and procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in other departments as assigned to meet staffing needs and travel to other sites as business needs arise.
  • Complete Quality Assurance (QA) assignments and ensure overall department compliance with requirements.
  • Support and complete quality initiatives: P4P, BMI, DataMart, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of equipment and Information Systems applications.
  • Activate emergency procedure per protocol - code, fire, etc.
  • Document patient care events in a thorough and accurate manner.
  • Manage and complete AEHR tasks per prescribed time lines.
  • Support and knowledge of new applications and policies: AEHR, Abbreviations, etc.
  • Demonstrate typing skills proficiency by using a keyboard, typing proficiently and accurately, a minimum of 30 words per minute with 0-2 errors, and proof work.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of insurance, utilization review, scheduling requirements and support of front desk responsibilities.
  • Operate and maintain department equipment.
