About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a crucial role in providing patient care at an appropriate skill level, ensuring a standard of care that meets or exceeds expectations. This position involves organizing the clinical environment and supporting patient care situations under the supervision of a provider or physician. The MA is responsible for various clinical tasks, assisting in identifying patient needs, and delivering quality customer service while adhering to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain it within 180 days of employment.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Basic computer literacy required, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Proven good communication and customer service skills.
  • Tuberculosis screening and proof of immunity to certain diseases.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Bilingual.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant's practice.
  • Operates diagnostic equipment (cannot interpret tests).
  • Removes staples from superficial wounds and changes wound dressings.
  • Obtains cultures and administers non-intravenous medication.
  • Performs simple specimen collection via noninvasive techniques and collects blood specimens via venipuncture or capillary.
  • Performs EKGs and quality control checks on equipment.
  • Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave.
  • Rooms patients according to policy and procedures and prepares them for examination.
  • Records patient care documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians, company standards, and policies.
  • Respects patient confidentiality and treats patients with courtesy and respect.
  • Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms, and sterilizes instruments.
  • Practices standard infection control precautions.
  • Supports and follows Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO).
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
