About The Position

The Medical Assistant in Urgent Care at White Plains Hospital is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and office duties under the supervision of a physician, provider, or nurse. This role is essential in ensuring efficient patient care and maintaining the operational flow of the urgent care facility. The Medical Assistant will interact with patients of all ages and assist in various medical procedures while adhering to the New York State Medical Assistant scope of practice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a six-month to one-year course in Medical Assisting at an accredited school required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) preferred.
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge and experience with Electronic Scheduling and Electronic Medical Records preferred.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to multi-task effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of geriatrics.

Responsibilities

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist as needed.
  • Obtain patient history and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Assist providers/nurses with various procedures and charting.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls.
  • Send/receive patient records and documents, and schedule surgical procedures and tests.
  • Obtain pre-certification for healthcare services and verify insurance coverage.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms and stock supplies.
  • Check and complete required logs and equipment checks.
  • Assist in cleaning exam/procedure rooms and maintaining infection control protocols.
  • Assist providers with management of EPM and EHR.
  • Communicate concerns/problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
  • Perform medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, and instrument wrapping.
  • Collect and handle laboratory specimens appropriately.
  • Perform electrocardiography and other office-specific tasks as necessary.
  • Adhere to infection control standards and utilize appropriate decision-making steps.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the healthcare team.
  • Complete annual mandatory requirements and attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
