Medical Assistant - Urgent Care Summary: As a Medical Assistant you will uphold our Mission, Vision, and Values. In this position you will perform a variety of patient care activities to provide clinical support and assistance to physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical staff. The schedule for this role will vary. Applicants must be available to work 2 - 12 hour shifts and 2 - 8 hour shifts Sunday through Saturday and holidays. Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health information. Vision - ODHS preferred partner in East Central Indiana for improving the well-being of individuals and the communities in which they live: Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patients care. Prepares patient for the provider by obtaining vital signs, chief complaint, as well as other data such as glucose reading, UA dipstick, pregnancy testing, and vision and hearing screening as appropriate and briefs provider prior to entering the exam room. Administers prescribed medications, immunizations and treatments as ordered. Assist in screening telephone calls for referrals, lab results and prescription refills for the provider. Prepares all patient charts the day prior to visit, including adding the appropriate forms, assuring all ordered laboratory testing and outside notes are obtained and in chart. Completes telephone prescription refills as assigned. Greet patients after check-in and assists to examination room. Assists provider with procedures as needed. Responsible for sterilizing instruments, maintaining cleanliness, and stocking all exam rooms. Responsible for Quality Checks and other duties assigned. About you: Ability to react calmly in emergency situations. Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed written and oral communication. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and procedures. Skill in obtaining vital signs and administering a variety of medications as prescribed by the provider. Knowledge of basic keyboarding and computer. Supports ODHS outreach events. Supports other departments as needed & applicable. Other duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Requirements: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substance, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to clinic environment. Tasks involve contact with blood or body substances. Requires standing, walking or sitting for long periods of time. Occasional bending, stretching or lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires the ability to work under stressful situations. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range or use of approved adaptive equipment.
