Summary: Serves as the trainer, mentor, and educational resource to Medical Assistants with emphasis on training new Medical Assistants and established employees identified as needing more training within the Memorial Physician Enterprise. Under the direction of the Practice Leadership, the Medical Assistant Trainer is responsible for developing a curriculum and educational materials that the staff can reference during and after onboarding.

Requirements

  • Accredited Program: Medical Assistant (Required)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Fingerprint Screen (FINGERPRNT) - Florida Department of Childrens & Family (DCF)
  • Complexity of Work: This role requires critical thinking skills, effective communication, decisive judgment, and the ability to build and foster positive relationships. The incumbent must be able to lead others and take appropriate action when required.
  • Required Work Experience: Two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience in lieu of graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or EMT program is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with Division Leadership ensures that each newly hired Medical Assistant in the office setting who performs tests and procedures receives didactic and/or hands-on training annually and is validated to be competent in the skill, and maintains records and tracking of staff competency.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of the Epic application module functionality to teach Medical Assistant how to properly use the system including understanding of end user workflows within the EPIC System.
  • Based upon specialty, onboards Medical Assistants to perform a wide range of essential tasks, including basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection, encompassing phlebotomy, splint application, and procedural tray/room set-up, while also ensuring thorough training in critical areas such as CLIA/COLA compliance, POCT (Point-of-Care Testing), handling and reconstitution of hazardous drugs, HLD (High-Level Disinfection), and sterilization of instruments.
  • Develops and delivers training to Medical Assistants to obtain proficiency in established competency checklists.
  • Develops, monitors, and ensures Medical Assistants meet initial competencies during a defined post hire period and at 6 months, and 1 year to uphold the highest standards of patient care and skill proficiency.
  • Works closely with division leadership to identify areas of deficiency and develop training to improve competency, continuing education, and process improvement.
  • Completes, assists, and facilitates monthly training opportunities for all Medical Assistants during departmental meetings.
  • Uses existing training content to coordinate, develop, design, and maintain team and individual training materials specifically for the Medical Assistant Team; updates materials to align with Epic's software enhancements.
