About The Position

UPMC in Central Pa is seeking motivated and enthusiastic candidates for our accelerated, full-time Medical Assistant Trainee Program! Through this paid training program, selected candidates will enroll in a UPMC-paid Medical Assistant course. The program includes weekly clinical rotations, didactic skills modules, cost-free MA certification exam, and an externship placement at a UPMC Central PA outpatient clinic. In exchange for enrollment in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program, selected candidates must agree to the following: A commitment to a 40-hour/work week and class schedule for 4-5 months. Classwork will be required additionally outside of these 40 hours. Mandatory attendance. A set hourly pay rate of $18.00/hour. A commitment to remain employed at UPMC in Central PA- Health Services Division as a Full-Time Medical Assistant for a minimum of 18 months, beginning at the time of enrollment in the trainee program. If chosen for this position you will be working at Spring Grove Family Care - 2030 Thistle Hill Drive, Spring Grove, PA following graduation of the program.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent.
  • Current enrollment in a Medical Assistant training program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other state and federal regulations.
  • Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Collect patient information and history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs.
  • Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Document patient information into the medical record.
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
