About The Position
At Concentra, the Medical Support Specialist (MSS) plays a vital role in the patient care team, contributing significantly to the mission of improving the health of America's workforce. This position involves performing routine medical and testing procedures under the direct supervision of the treating clinician, while also supporting various areas of the facility, including registration and referral management. The MSS is expected to deliver efficient and accurate one-on-one patient care in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that every patient receives quality clinical care and an excellent patient experience from a welcoming and respectful team. The MSS is responsible for a variety of tasks, including preparing patients for physical examinations, taking vital signs, and conducting ancillary testing such as vaccines, injections, phlebotomy, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), audiogram testing, and respirator fit testing. Additionally, the MSS performs rapid screening tests, assists providers during examinations and treatments, and triages emergent patients as needed. The role also includes preparing and assisting clinicians with procedure setups and injury care, applying bandages and dressings, dispensing medications and durable medical equipment (DME), and maintaining quality assurance on medical equipment and devices. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the MSS is tasked with clerical duties in both the front and back office, which include greeting patients, obtaining authorizations, checking patients in and out, communicating wait times, answering a multi-line telephone system, and distributing employer results and paperwork. The MSS must adhere to HIPAA guidelines and safety rules, maintain a clean and orderly facility, and participate in ongoing training to ensure compliance with clinical competency standards. This position is essential for maintaining patient flow and ensuring that patients are informed throughout their visit to the center.
