About The Position

The Medical Assistant at Stockbridge Primary Care is responsible for a variety of tasks that support patient care and the smooth operation of the medical office. This includes greeting patients, obtaining medical histories, documenting information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), recording vital signs, performing office procedures such as EKGs and spirometry, and assisting licensed staff during patient examinations and treatments. The Medical Assistant will also perform lab duties, distribute educational information under supervision, coordinate prescription refills, maintain examination rooms, and comply with safety and risk management procedures. Additional responsibilities include attending meetings and assisting with administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or completion of a Nursing Assistant program is required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or a similarly recognized certifying organization required.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and greets patients, obtains appropriate patient information and medical history, accurately completes and documents patient medical and physical histories in the EMR.
  • Records vital signs; performs EKG, spirometry and other similar office procedures; aids licensed staff during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Performs lab duties, including phlebotomy, order entry, specimen collection, and labels for delivery to appropriate authority for testing.
  • Under supervision, distributes educational information and instructions for patient care and diagnostics.
  • Coordinates telephone and in-basket requests to refill prescription medications and report test results.
  • Prepares and maintains examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Practices Standard Precautions and complies with established risk management, HIPAA, and safety procedures.
  • Attends required meetings, in-services, and participates in committees as required.
  • Assists with administrative duties, including procedure scheduling and completion of medical and physical history forms.
