Position Summary Performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting as a medical assistant. Acts as a medical scribe for a provider in the ambulatory setting. The workschedule will be flexible. Looking for 7:30-4:00 and 7:45-4:15 dependent on the needs of the clinic. 2-3 days a week.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under theExperience section) is required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Scribe training program.
  • Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification; and
  • Hold completion certification of a Scribe training program; and
  • Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies: o Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) (www.nhanow.com) o Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (www.aama-ntl.org) o Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) (www.amcaexams.com) o National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (www.ncctinc.com) o Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) (www.nahpusa.com) o Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT) (www.amt1.com), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) (www.arma-cert.org), or by American Allied Health (AAH) (www.americanalliedhealth.com) o Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Minimum three (3) years as a Certified Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:
  • Patient medical history and physical exam.
  • Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
  • Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
  • Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructionsfor patient or family members forself-care and follow-up.
  • Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician.
  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Works collaboratively with the administrative and operationsstaff.
  • Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assiststhe physician during examination and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
  • Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants Scribes. Acts as MA scribe preceptor and/or oversees assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
  • Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
  • Assists the physician by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Able to help lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Adheres and assures compliance with Orlando Health and department specific policy, procedures, value statements and Commitment to Excellent standards.
  • Consistently demonstrates personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and have the ability to assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients on his or her assigned department and/or unit.
  • Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practices the efficient use ofsupplies.
  • Assists business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
