About the position

The Medical Assistant in Rheumatology at WellSpan Medical Group in York, PA, provides safe, therapeutic, and efficient care and services to patients. This full-time position involves assisting in direct patient care, performing treatments, administering medications (if qualified and appropriately supervised), and instructing patients and their families in appropriate care as directed by their provider. The role requires active participation in a patient-centered practice, contributing to the development of office workflows that support patient-centered care. Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents reason for visit and patient vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collects specimens as directed by provider, ensuring proper handling and tracking.
  • Maintains patient care areas with adequate supplies and equipment in good working condition.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and uses Standard Precautions for all encounters.
  • Arranges for patients' diagnostic and therapeutic services, tracking and relaying information regarding test results.
  • Under supervision, prepares and administers vaccines, medications, and controlled substances as prescribed.
  • Documents and processes prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Performs basic office procedures and tests ordered by the provider.
  • Provides patients with standard care instructions and education.
  • Obtains comprehensive health information from patients and family members.
  • Completes pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines.
  • Manages daily patient flow and prioritizes care tasks delegated by the care team.
  • Takes ownership in office function/process improvement under supervisor direction.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient health information and completes mandatory education.
  • Supports the provider during visits by collecting and entering information in patient records.
  • Maintains an 80% or higher on all yearly audits performed.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program (Diploma) or National Medical Assistant Certification upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire required.
