About The Position

The Medical Assistant/Registrar at Norton Cancer Institute is responsible for performing various administrative and clinical tasks to support patient care in a prompt care setting. This part-time role involves managing patient registration, scheduling appointments, and assisting with clinical duties, ensuring a smooth workflow in the clinic while providing exceptional customer service to patients.

Requirements

  • No experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Desired: One year of experience as a Nursing Assistant, PCA, or MA.
  • Desired: Certification or National Registry as a Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs registration in computerized systems.
  • Performs pre-registration and enters date of service upon patient arrival.
  • Obtains current demographic and insurance information at each patient encounter and verifies it is correctly entered into all systems.
  • Collects co-payments and sends missed appointment letters to patients.
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and secures referrals to PCP or specialists if needed.
  • Schedules patient appointments in electronic scheduling system and schedules diagnostic tests and consults.
  • Secures precerts/authorizations for diagnostic tests and admissions/transfers.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls, prioritizes and routes appropriately, and provides exceptional customer service.
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing correspondence and files appropriately in patient charts.
  • Assists with chart preparation and measures vital signs including pain score and height/weight, updating medical records.
  • Prepares patients for exams and manages flow through the clinic area, cleaning rooms and equipment between patients.
  • Assists nursing staff and performs phlebotomy, processing all laboratory specimens.
  • Verifies that all laboratory reports are received and given to the physician for review.
  • Documents appropriately on electronic medical record and in the patient chart, obtaining signatures on Advance Beneficiary Notices per Medicare requirements.
  • Maintains and reconciles laboratory logs and prepares instruments for sterilization.
  • Orders supplies and stocks exam rooms, treatment rooms, lab, and nourishment area, ensuring proper rotation of supplies.
